Fitment & Compatibility (read this before you order)

Almost every return we process comes down to one question: does this radio fit my exact vehicle? Three things decide it, and all three take about five minutes to check.

1. The dash opening

  • Single DIN (180 x 50 mm) — a slim slot. Most large screens need a dash kit.
  • Double DIN (180 x 100 mm) — the most common upgrade path; most 7"–9" units fit directly.
  • Factory screen — model-specific. You need the vehicle-specific unit, not a universal one.
  • Floating screen — mounts above the dash, so dash depth barely matters.

2. The wiring and the factory amplifier

Two vehicles can share a dash opening and have completely different wiring. Before ordering, check whether your car has a factory amplifier (Bose, JBL, B&O, Harman Kardon, Rockford, Sony) — premium systems need an adapter harness or a line-out converter. Without one you get silence, or sound from only some speakers. Some Audi, BMW and Mercedes models with factory navigation also use fibre optic (MOST) wiring, which needs a dedicated adapter.

3. The factory features you want to keep

Write down which of these your car has: steering wheel controls, factory reverse camera or parking sensors, USB/AUX ports in the console, climate or vehicle settings shown on the factory screen, and warning chimes. Our vehicle-specific kits include a CAN bus decoder that keeps the steering wheel buttons and the chimes working.

How to confirm your fitment (5 minutes)

  1. Photograph your current dash and radio straight on, in daylight.
  2. Note the exact year, model, generation code (e.g. BMW E90, Golf MK6) and trim. Generation matters more than the model name.
  3. Photograph the back of your existing radio so the connector is visible.
  4. Look for an amplifier badge on the door speakers, and for a small orange or green fibre connector.

Then either read our complete fitment guide or email the photos to support@awesafeinc.com — we would rather answer three questions before you order than process a return afterwards.

Frequently asked fitment questions

How do I know if my car has a factory amplifier?

Look for a badge on the speaker grilles or the centre dashboard (Bose, JBL, B&O, Harman Kardon, Rockford, Sony) and check whether the trim level is a premium audio version. If you are unsure, send us a photo.

Will my steering wheel controls still work?

Yes on vehicles covered by the kit — the supplied CAN bus decoder retains volume, track change and call answering, along with the warning chimes.

Will my factory reverse camera work?

On most vehicles it can be routed through the supplied adapter. Where it cannot, the AHD camera included with the kit replaces it with a sharper image.

What if the radio arrives and does not fit?

That is covered. Return it within 30 days and we will send the correct version or refund you in full. Tell us your year, model and trim and we will confirm the right part before shipping.

Do I need to cut any wires?

No. Everything connects through plug-and-play harnesses — nothing is cut or soldered.
